In our mini course, "Leg Position and Function," we explored the importance of a balanced and responsive leg. A beautiful leg position is not only visually appealing but also essential for effective communication with your horse. By understanding the subtle movements required to absorb suspension and breath, you can enhance your balance and influence.
Piano Exercise
To help with balance and ability to absorb movement in your leg, play piano with your toes to wake up the sole of your feet. Find the spot behind your second toe in the ball of your foot, and make sure that the stirrup supports that area. It is an acupressure point that goes to all your organs and grounds you when you stand on a surface.
With this awareness, you will be able to align your feet under your hips for great balance and the ability to absorb shock.
It will give you the ability to feel, "if your horse would disappear from under you, you would be standing on the ground, safely balanced over your feet".
